[TYPO3-dam] Status of DAM developement?

Does anybody know if FE-indexing/adding files is going to be part of DAM? Currently I initiate a dryrun from FE to get all the meta-data and insert the data manually into the database because a real indexing-call from FE fails due to permission problems and missing BE librarires (or so).
I guess it won't be a problem in typo3 5.0 anymore - but it's a long way to that :(
