[TYPO3-content-rendering] captionSplit bug/patch

Hi!

This bug report has been open with a proposed solution to the return of
captionSplit for a while now:

It has been discussed briefly in the core-list already, but I think
without some feedback from the original submitter of the report (JoH),
we won't know if this solves all the issues or not.

JoH and maybe others, would you mind taking a look at it, so that we
could even get that included in a 4.0.1?
