[TYPO3-community] Extending profiles in community

Hi,

I would be very interested to extend the user profiles when using 
community. How would this be achieved? Will it be ok to use the 
kickstarter to create an new extension thereby extending the fe_user 
table for additional fields? Will it be possible to show/edit those 
additional fields with community?

Or even easier would be if additional fields could be created using the BE.
