[Typo3-install] Newbie Needs Install Info

I posted on the typo3-debian list but I think I should have posted here. I am 
a complete new comer to CMS and typo3. I am using the latest version of 
Ubuntu on a desktop which is not set up as a server. My question is: do I 
have to set up my desktop as a server to use typo3? If my ISP has the 
required apps (apache, php, mysql, etc) can I install and use typo3, 
uploading to the ISP server?
