Hey Puneet,

first of all thanks for your project idea and for your interest in a Google Summer of Code project for TYPO3.

My name is Andy and i`m the Co-Leader of the TYPO3 Quality Assurance Team [1].
I think that your project idea is a good idea for our Team and for the testing infrastructure of TYPO3.
We got a continuous integration (Jenkins) for testing our code. Your project can be included in this infrastructure.

I know Selenium, but i dont know TestNG. What i`ve read about it that this is a testing framework written in java.
And i don`t know how you want to include Eclipse in this process.
Is Eclipse the plattform where the tests will be running?

An alternative idea is using PhantomJs with a testing framework instead of Selenium / TestNG.
I know from the development of Wikimedia (the software of Wikipedia) that PhantomJS is used there for GUI / WebApp-Testing.
With PhantomJS it is possible to create testcases for iPhone and Android, too.
One advantage of using PhantomJs is that Javascript development is widely spreaded and more known in the TYPO3 community instead of Java. This makes maintainence and contributions much more easy.

What do you think about it?
If you want to implement the idea of a GUI testing application specialised for TYPO3 you are welcome :)
Feel free to ask me or the rest of the team.

Have a nice day!
Andy
