Interessant wäre eher, ob es zwischen dein vermeintlichen Zeilen noch ein \n 
(Char 10, 0x0A) gibt.

Hast du eventuell irgendwelche Output-Cleaner (html tidy, etc) an?

Zumindest in 6.2 und News master funktioniert alles genau so wie gedacht.
