Hey Ralf, 

this sentence originated from the ambitious early day world domination like plans of YAG development :) 

Actually YAG has some preparations for other asset types, but I never implemented them.

A quick solution would be:
- You could configure a metadata field of type "youtube"
- Then you upload a the preview image of the youtube movie and add the youtube link
- A custom fluid template could then render the youtube video when viewing this image in lightbox or single view mode

The configuration and the adjusted template would fit in a special yag theme.
