Thanks for the responses, there is a lot to digest there.  When I learn a CMS I always start getting to know the product inside out from an editors perspective, that way I have a better understanding of who I will be developing/integrating for.

I can see that the concepts have remained the same over the versions so the resources are indeed a good start.
