Great response from Bernd. My only comment is about the ExtbaseFluid
book at docs.typo3.org. As far as I know, the content has not been
maintained for quite a long time.

That's one reason why we published "The TYPO3 Extbase Book" just
recently: http://www.extbase-book.org which covers TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS as
well as version 7.

If you want to learn modern extension development for TYPO3 CMS with
Extbase and Fluid, this could be of interest.
