[TYPO3-english] HTML prepended by '?>'

when refreshing my typo3 site after clearing all cache or by just doing
ctrl+f5, the site i'm developing is being prepended by '?>' before any
rendering is one

the top HTML outputs

...
?><?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE html...
...

the strange characters disappear when i refresh once again, however, when
traveling on other pages, the characters appear again.

i've already tried an html cleaner extension and even tried to change my
character encoding, but to no avail.

The Typo3 i'm using is 4.3 (upgraded from 4.2.x) running on Linux.

Does anybody have an idea why this is happening? Need this eliminated for a
sitemap extension m using.

Thanks.
