[TYPO3-english] Need to change at WEC template

I need to change some small things on a starter package using the template19-sub2brown (webempoweredchurch):

1. move the login box from a box into a single line
2. change that the right column is small and the left column is big (or have the main column at the left side)

Sounds easy.
I used Quanta Plus in Ubuntu to change the template.html and the styles.css
It looks nearly as I want it  ;-) 

Uploading to the server changes:
1. the login *box* remained, just now on the right site and as large as I like it, but in the same hight as it was before, and not in the header as one liner.

2. the left column remains small and the right column large

3. (I am sure it is not related with the WEC package, but still a problem):
CTRL-U gives me an empty page instead of the source (only at some of the WEC starter web sites I made)

I have chosen WEC, since it has all other things I need already installed.

I need also a hint to setup this site bi-lingual (English / Traditional Chinese).
