did you compare database with install tool. Every time, when you update 
into new Typo3 branch you should use database comparison and update your 
database (for example updating from 4.1.x to 4.2.x).
Normally this is not necessary with bugfix updates (for example updating 
   from 4.2.1 to 4.2.3).
