hmm....
But your Mileage might vary.
DirectMail 2.5.2 should be working in any decent and recent installation 
and well installed Server.

PS: I havent understand what the problem is. I hope you did understand 
that directmail will not work if you have installed these extensions:

# conflicts with sr_direct_mail_ext
# conflicts with it_dmail_fix
# conflicts with plugin_mgm
