[TYPO3] All text is underlined

Hello all. I am using templavoila to do most of my layout and have the following TypoScript:

# Default PAGE object:
page = PAGE
page.typeNum = 0
page.config.doctype = xhtml_strict
page.config.doctypeSwitch = 1
page.config.index_enable = 1
page.config.index_externals = 1
page.config.metaCharset = utf-8
page.10 = USER
page.10.userFunc = tx_templavoila_pi1->main

Now, when I take away the page.config items, everything renders normally. But when I add the first page.config item (page.config.doctype = xhtml_strict) all of my text is now underlined and I cannot use CSS to turn it off. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
