[TYPO3] simulatestaticdocuments stops working with apache2

I just upgrade my php4 to php5, and my apache13 to apache20
 
For some reason my simulatestaticdocuments stopped working.

My first reaction was to look at the Apache installation, but the 
.htaccess file -is- rewriting, ie: www.skytracker.ca to skytracker.ca
so mod_rewrite -does- appear to working.

I have searched on simulatestaticdocuments and apache2 but there is very
little on the lists. 

Wondering if anyone has a suggestion.
