[TYPO3] Generate a heading from an extension

I have typoscript code in my template that uses the gifbuilder to make 
images out of the headings using a font I uploaded.

I've created an extension and I'd like to create headings in the 
extension the same way.  I can't see any way to do it though.  Is this 
possible, or am I looking at this in the wrong way?

Any tips/kicks in the right direction would be appreciated.
