[TYPO3] Reuse images on different pages?

Hi,

I would like to add some images several times throughout my website, 
but don't want Typo3 to create different identical files in 
uploads/pics/.  Is it possible?

Second, instead of opening a window which displays only the image, I 
would like to configure one page that should be used to display the 
images clicked on.  I assume, the only way is to edit showpic.php, 
right?
