[TYPO3] taged byline and subheader in tt_news

I have a problem with tt_news

I've set it up and it works very nicely on one site.

However on another site the byline and subheader are wrapped with HTML 
tags, so I get displayed on the web page:

  <a 
href="javascript:linkTo_UnCryptMailto('nbjmup;ncblfsAqpcpy/dpn');">BY: 
DR MICHAEL BAKER</a>

  <strong><em>CRM-CTT open source database works for DACSSA</em></strong>

Instead of:

  BY: DR MICHAEL BAKER

  CRM-CTT open source database works for DACSSA

I can't see any differences between the sites that could account for 
this.  Any suggestions please?
