But its *NOT* "necessary" for front end editing like you said it was,
and I don't think it is a default extension (or at least I don't have it
on any of my 3.8 installations and they seem to have front end editing
fine with out it)!

In fact all it seems to be is a extension that gives an "Example of
backend user pre-configuration via User-TSconfig." [1]

So that wouldn't really help Scott to get the Admin Panel to show or for
proper FE editing to be set up (unless he has not set up a backend user
that works correctly - but as he has not mentioned a problem with that
one assumes that he has set up a BE user fine, and is only having
problems getting the admin panel to show)

My point isn't to start an argument with you, but more so to emphasis
the need to be careful what you say is necessary (especially when its
not even really related to the problem). I just think that at a time
when the usage of typo3 is spreading so greatly, and rapidly, and when
the major criticism of typo3 is the poor documentation and "lack of ease
of use" we need to all be careful about what we say is necessary, and
that when we say that it is necessary and not misleading -even if all we
are trying to do is be helpful. The last thing I want to hear/see next
is that the mailing lists are inaccurate and most of the information is
misleading...
