[Typo3] Upgrade from 3.5 to 3.8 in one step?

I did this, followed each step, and all of my content vanished.  Please 
help.  What could I have missed that would make all my content vanish? 
  The structure of the page (headers, side menus, etc) were there, but 
the contect was gone.
