[Typo3] how do I terminate a typo3 process?

lol, don't know about the air humidity =)
Anyway, the site was working earlier today but crashed when I changed the 
password in the "installation mode". After that every page in the typo3-site 
(both frontend and backend) is blank but I can see that some kind of process 
is running in the background. I'll changed to an older localconf but it 
didn't made any difference.
I'll try to reinstall the site again because I got a backup on my local 
machine....
