that's great.

Out of curiosity, can you tell me what version of mysql you are using?

This is not the first problem that I've had that doesn't seem to affect 
users with earlier versions of mysql. And, as you see, phpMyAdmin, seems 
to avoid the issue.

I am using mysql Ver 4.1.11-log, default build and install, with the 
typo database created to use utf-8. Is this similar to your own situation?
