[Typo3] How can provide documents for download?

Hello again!

I need to provide documents (mostly PDF, but perhaps also some DOCs) for 
download. I don't need anything fancy like access control lists, just 
some categories and an easy way to show the downloads on the website. 
So, e. g. the first 3 (or 5) from category 1 should be available on one 
page, those from another category on another.

At a first glance at typo3.org/extensions I found several which seem to 
do that, but as there is no documentation for some, I hope there's 
anyone here who can give me info on his/her experience with an extension 
that could do the job.
