[Typo3] paging of database records

hello,

i am currently working on an extension and would like to split the  
database results into pages
like google does...

<prev 1 2 3 4 5 next>

after viewing page 5 an clicking on next link, the page numbering  
increments to the next set of 5 etc.

<prev 10 11 12 13 14 15 next>


the built in function pi_list_browseresults() does not increment the  
currenty viewed page numbers

why is this so?

am I missing something very obvious or is there another function that  
can
prdouce this kind of output?
