[Typo3] unable to install extensions

	And I'm in the same boat (though a different OS).
	Could someone would with more knowledge of what should be 
going on with the install process internally (ie which files are 
written, what database entries made, etc) help us out here, maybe 
give us a more detailed debug process?
	I'm a competent unix and apache administrator for quite 
complex setups (but with relatively little typo3 experience, just one 
fairly straightforward site with some customisation), I have plenty 
of time to devote to solving this problem and people who want to pay 
me to do it, and I really just don't know what else to do... I have 
turned on every debug setting I can find, and still get very little 
feedback as to what is happening, just a continuing failure to 
actually work....  I would really appreciate some leads on how to 
debug this problem as so far I have spent a lot of effort to not even 
get any insight into what is going on, let alone leads on a solution.
