[Typo3] scrolling content

hey, 

is there a way to make every content-item scrollable (in a table), in the way
that my overall lay-out always stays the same size?
eg. I have place for 400px , but once my text, or image gallery needs more, 
typo3 adds scroll bars to it?

Is this possible or do I have to use java or something in my template file?

(hope that it's a bit clear what I m trying to say)
