[Typo3] Dispearing emails?

Hi!

Got a problem with Typo3 and a multisite machine.

To describe the problem.

The T3-3.8 installation runs on a Apache2 machine running php as cgi 
thru a cgiwrapper (more security for stupid users). The machine uses 
qmail as mailhandler.

Typo3 fails to send mails somehow from a standard Typo3 installation. 
The sendmail aliase is in place and other scripts can send mail (for 
example phpBB) but not Typo3?

Has anybody any clues on what might be wrong?
