[Typo3] Error: The main frontend extension "cms" was not loaded. Enable it in the extension manager in the backend.

Update: I deleted the 'temp_cached files" and the site magically came 
back, in the FE and BE. I'm confused and worried, though, as I don't 
hace a clue of what actually happened.

Any help is still appreciated in tracking down the problem.
