[Typo3] Frontend Editing Options

 From what I can gather, my only options for front-end editing is to 
have BE users log in to /typo3 directly (optionally being 
auto-redirected to FE using frontend_edit_only) or using dkd_feuser_belogin?

What I'm trying to do is shield editors from the BE if at all possible. 
But dkd_feuser_belogin has given me no joy, probably because I'm on PHP5 
and latest 3.8.1 release -- based on other email threads.

Are there other approaches to accomplishing this that I've missed? I'd 
love to hear ideas, if not references to existing solutions/extensions 
that might help in my quest.
