[Typo3] subparts.RIGHT.stdWrap.required = 1

Hi, 
can anyone tell me what this does?

subparts.RIGHT.stdWrap.required = 1

I'm trying to comment my template so I'm clear about what each bit does but
I can't remember what this is for! It doesn't seem to make a difference if I
delete it so maybe it's not required.
