[Typo3] TMenu with 2 (or more) columns

Hello,

I'm trying to make a menu that is divided in multiple columns (in this case 2). I have been able to do it, but when the text wraps it adds empty lines in the other column, which I don't want. I have tried a CSS solution, but unfortunately that didn't work either. Is there a way to do this with typoscript? The number of menu items is variable and I don't want to have to change the typoscript every time I add or remove an item.
