[Typo3] Template question

Hi,

I'd like to use one template for my homepage and the other template for
the rest of the pages. What's the best way to do it - to make an if (if
page == homepage then use tpl1.htm else use tpl2.htm) or to make some page
between homepage and other pages like a placeholder for ext template setup
where tpl to use would be defined. If the better way is to use an if
statement how can it be written?
