[Typo3] Working with Word Documents

The client has added content to their site by pasting pre-formatted content
from Word. According to the RTE API this is do-able, however now the content
is almost uneditable (ie: trying to change formatting doesn't work.)

Also, not all of the formatting transferred over properly -- some of the
words at the beginning of some paragraphs are missing their formatting
(which we then can't fix because the RTE won't let us reformat the text.)

I've tried using both the built-in RTE and HTMLArea, but neither can handle
Word-formatted HTML. I also tried cleaning the HTML with "RTE MS Word
Cleanup"  and DreamWeaver's Word-HTML cleaner with no luck.

We have about 90 pages of content (in three languages) entered already, but
it's extremely difficult to edit afterwards. I would like to allow them to
continue using Word, but it needs to be editable.

Are there any workarounds or procedures/methods for working with Word
Documents?
