Here's a snippet that I use to display the current year on a website

   # toon huidige jaartal in footer
   # zie http://typo3.org/documentation/mailing-lists/english-main- 
list-archive/thread/45246/?tx_maillisttofaq_pi1%5Bsword%5D=getText% 
20date&tx_maillisttofaq_pi1%5Banswered_only%5D=0&tx_maillisttofaq_pi1% 
5Bmode%5D=1
   marks.CURRENT_YEAR = TEXT
   marks.CURRENT_YEAR.data = date:U
   marks.CURRENT_YEAR.strftime= %Y
