[Typo3] symlinks for typo3

Hi again

What I did was install the

typo3_src-3.7.1 in   home/www/

and installed dummy-3.7.1

Renamed typo3_src-3.7.1 to  users

went into users dir and typed in   ln -s ../typo3_src-3.7.1 typo3_src

went to browser  typed in http://bla/users/index.php

page cannot be found error

changed permissions in users dir to 777 recursive

now in the SSH shell the typo3_src (in users) is a different colour - does 
this mean the symlink os okay.

Am I doing something wrong, or have I missed something
