[Typo3] image links do not work?

Thanks much for your response.  The type of the content element is 'Text 
w/ Image'.  What if the image I want to use is on some other server?  Do 
  I have to copy and save it to my desktop box and upload to my typo3 
webserver?  In another word, with the Text w/ image type or any other 
image related types, do the images have to be physically located on the 
typo3 server?
