[TYPO3-dev] FAL recursive delete handled correctly?

Hello all,

I hope this is not too off-topic:

When deleting files in the backend module File -> Filelist, the corresponding entries in sys_file are simultaneously deleted, together with the files in the file system. But when deleting a folder that contains files, the file records are not deleted from sys_file (but the files in the file system are deleted). Is this normal behavior? Are we relying here on some maintenance routine run later by scheduler that checks for non-existing files and cleans up the orphaned entries?
