I agree with your view on having something "out of the box". And I
personally like RealURL, though I know many have a different view on that.

But I'm a bit unsure if we should go the way of shipping a sysext
(current RealURL possibly) and throw that over board for CMS 8 again
then. Dmitry afaik wanted to start from a clean base again, is that
right? Or would there be a migration-path towards RealURL 2 then?

Do you think it would be realistic to maybe try to join forces with the
planned development in the RealURL-universe and discuss with Dmitry if
your solution 2 (full-fletched solution) would be something he might
want to consider basing his work for a clean new "realurl" on?

If we integrate some full-featured and clean solution I don't see much
need for yet another newly developed solution in parallel (separate
RealURL 2). Maybe if there are parts that RealURL 2 wants to offer but
core decides it's going a bit too far then RealURL 2 could be an
extension to the core-mechanism?
Of course it's great to have alternatives - as with RealURL vs. CoolURI.
But multiplying the base-concepts "just because we can" doesn't seem
helpful to me imho.

Do you think that some routing-solution based on ChainRouter could be
integrated and "full-fletched" even for CMS7 then?
(I still need to take a look at ChainRouter.)

Kind regards,
 Stefan
