Makes sense if your global layout is build by an extension...

In our case (big company website) layout (Typoscript) and dynamic
content (plugins) are quite separated and designed by different people.
Where possible, we're using Fluid generated links. But in some rare
caeses, for the mainframe stuff, there is some collaboration  between
both technologies needed...
