[TYPO3-dev] TER goes cloud - call for beta testers

Hi,

we (admins) have the urgent need to change the current setup of the
TER mirrors, which requires coordinated action by all mirror sponsors.

During the discussion about the migration to a new server, we agreed
to give the modern way of geographically distributing files (using a
CDN) a chance.

Therefore, I have now set up a distribution inside the Amazon
CloudFront CDN for http://ter.typo3.org that uses the main typo3.org
repository as backend.

It would be very nice to get some feedback from the community, if this
is a good way for the future of the TER.

I have also created a replacement mirrors.xml file, which some of you
hackers could try (by replacing the
http://repositories.typo3.org/mirrors.xml.gz URL with
mirrors-cloudfront.xml.gz in the
tx_extensionmanager_domain_model_repository table).

Please note that the host name ter.typo3.org is not yet meant to be
used for production and is subject to configuration changes!

P.S: The TER download counter could be finally fixed by collecting the
log files / statistics.
Purges could be used to delete extensions, in cases where the security
team demands this. Of course, this would require integration with
typo3.org.
