[TYPO3-dev] A proper way to give up an extension?

You can change the status in ext_emconf.php from alpha/beta/stable to
"obsolete" and upload a new version with the upload comment "This
version is not maintained anymore.".

At least that's what I did with extensions I didn't want to maintain
anymore.
