Would it be realistic to propose to extDevs a radio button visible in EM 
with "use classic <4.2 CSC" and "Use CSC 2.0" so not all old rendering 
from exts is down the drain ?

I'm talking about this screen for exemple where you can set some default 
configuration at the extension level: 
/typo3/mod/tools/em/index.php?CMD[showExt]=date2cal&SET[singleDetails]=info

Often simplicity is a good alternative. :)
(and sometimes I'm wrong too...)
