I wonder why would TYPO3 maintain a list of lock files in the first  
place (if you have the list, then you know it's locked..)
May be this is something that can be stored in a InnoDB table?? (I  
really don't know the details of this system....

anyways, looking into the number of google entries for that error it  
looks like that it's a serious problem.
