No, this would not be fine.
Maybe an entry for each extension should be created on the wiki.
Everyone could post links to his patches there. And he could discuss the
troubles found with others on the wiki page of an extension.
An extension should be transferred to someone else only after 1 year of
no response from the author.

An email is not a very secure means of transport. It could get lost,
overseen or deleted.
