cause Kasper says so :)

t3lib_div::trimexplode is only a little bit slower than doing a join and 
since performance isn't a too big issue in the backend (at least in the 
huge projects we have (150+ users))

This is more of a traditional issue.
Kasper always stored stuff this way and it never posed a problem.
