The old BSD license had an advertising clause (saying you must credit 
UCBerkley in any advertisement for a derived product), this is GPL 
incompatible. The newer BSD-licenses don't have that clause and are 
compatible.

That has, of course, nothing to do with the fact that BSD people dislike 
GPL for being 'viral' and preventing proprietary derivs.
