for the idea of deeper integration into standard environments it's a 
really great idea.

Als you can use syslog very os independent. There are implementations 
that listen on 514/udp (syslog9) also on windows. so with a dual 
interface it's possible on any os and ready for 'central logging'.

Ps.: Modern syslog replacements also listen on TCP port and are able to 
sign messages. Syslog-NG is a famous replacement.
