That's true. But 3.6 has always been called a maintenance release which
"no features" added. Which is not true of course, as we got xhtml/xml,
utf-8, inline code documentation, etc.

AFAIK many of these thing are finished or almost done.

I urge you to let it at that. Stick to the "roadmap" and release 3.6
now. "Now" means RC2 this week or early next week. Followed by a final
version the following fortnight.

Many a folks have been waiting for utf-8 and xhtml, don't disappoint
them. DBAL and versioning are great and will greatly enhance Typo3.
Pushing around release dates and goals apparently at will reduces IMHO
the customers faith. Looks like folks had no plan at all.

Plus it's ridiculous to release a "release candidate" and the to step
down to add a whole bunch of features. This doesn't help the credibility
either.

Well, as follows from my above statements I see no point in having
versioning in 3.6.

Autumn is perhaps a bit pessimistic. But I reckon DBAL is more than
adding the layer in te code. You need testing with diferrents DBs.
Problems, minor and major, are bound to appear. No worrries, they will
be resolved, but who knows when?

I see no problem with releasing 3.6 now, followed by a 3.7 in two or
three months. There is no rule that says there has to be only one 3.x
per year.

No doubt about the quality, but "in time" makes only sense if there is a
roadmap. AFIK there is no official roadmap for Typo3, which is BTW a bad
thing.
