not with PHP since PHP normally has a max execution time.
depending on the bandwidth of your server, this might become a problem.

All in all this is just comparing some strings.

AFAIK WE utilizes java for this stuff.
You need write access to the server in order to set up the symlinks right
(assuming you use them) and so on and so on.
