[Typo3-dev] database question... connection pooling/multiple connections

was chatting with a buddy of mine who is doing some coding using an oracle
database.

he's mainly just curious how typo3 handles all the database connections that
would result from a high-traffic site.  given the size of typo3, and its
reliance on the mysql database to hold the data.

"the question would be how do they manage multiple connections, since the
concept of connection pooling doesn't exist in PHP in the sense that it does
in the Java world."

I really don't know much about working with databases, so I apologize if
this is completely off-topic.
